Within Thermo Fisher Scientific (formerly FEI) we are typically imaging small objects. Along with the imaging comes the need of handling these small objects.
The market needs for automation become more and more important and for that reason FEI wants to explore the possibilities for handling these small objects further.
The assignment will involve the design, realization and validation of a prove of concept test setup.
Competencies needed are mechatronics design and precision mechanics. Competencies in machine vision are preferred.

Lamella handling tool
To find defects in silicon wafers, we need to cut out a part of the wafer and analyze it in a TEM microscope. This 10 nanometer thick cut-out part (lamella) needs to be lifted out of the silicon wafer and welded to a grid carrier. The assignment is to design a proof-of-principle set-up for this lift-out tool.
